CREATING BALANCE AND BEAUTIFUL SPACES - THE 3-5-7 RULE.

Interior design is often not about adding more, but rather knowing how to style things in a way that feels balanced and effortless. One of the easiest ways to do this is by using something called the 3-5-7 rule.

It sounds technical, but it is actually incredibly simple and something we use often when styling homes.

The idea is that objects grouped in odd numbers tend to look better visually. They feel more natural, less rigid and help create movement within a space. Think of a coffee table with a candle, a beautiful vase and a stack of books. Three items immediately feel collected and intentional without looking overdone.

The same applies to shelving, consoles and bedside tables. Styling with five or seven pieces allows you to layer textures, heights and materials in a way that gives a room warmth and personality.

One of the most important parts of using this rule well is variation. Mixing different shapes and finishes keeps things interesting. Pair glass with wood, ceramics with metal or greenery with softer textures to create depth. It is also important not to overcrowd a space. Sometimes removing one item completely can make everything else work better.

What we love about the 3-5-7 rule is that it gives structure while still allowing a home to feel lived in and personal. It is not about making a room look staged or perfect. It is about creating balance in a way that feels welcoming and effortless.

Often, the smallest styling decisions are the ones that make a home feel beautifully finished.
